A New Year and a More Improved YOU
"New Year. New me". That's how the saying goes, right? Once the new year hits, it gives us the chance to reset and become the new idealized self we want to be and forget about the mistakes and problems we went through the previous year. As much as this sounds true, we can't completely forget what happened in 2015 and the years before that. If we did, how can we learn and grow?
As one big Bayanihan family, we share amazing memories with one another, but individually, there are plenty of things that we wish to work on each day. Here are some of our members' New Year's Resolutions:
1. "To laugh at drama and shake off the little things in life."

Life is too short to take everything too seriously and get caught up in unneccesary drama. Just keep smiling and laughing and attract only the positives this year.
2. "Organize my life -- try being a minimalist?"

We all have those days, where we feel like an absolute mess. I mean, it's so easy to take in a ton of responsibilities and buy/hoard items we don't really need. Take time out of your busy day to re-evaluate what you really need and decide whether those things/activities make you happy and are worthwhile.
3. "Contact my family more than I did last year :)"

With all the busyness that takes place during our college life, we shouldn't take our family for granted. The older we get, the more often we don't get to see them. So make the most of your time with them when you can!
4. "My resolution is to be the difference that I wish to see in the world, so that one day I may have the ability to change the world for the better."

Everyone wants to see change. Not just with themselves, but with the world around them. While we may feel small, small acts of kindness are a great start in making a difference in your community. Start saying hi to the person who hasn't smiled in awhile or start volunteering at a local food pantry. A small act will definitely look great in someone else's eyes.
5. "To manage my anxiety better and to be more comfortable with being alone."

There are plenty of things in life that stress us out, and sometimes we need to find time to get away and find inner peace and happiness within ourselves. Take time to reflect, meditate, or even take a walk by yourself to clear your head once in awhile. Sometimes we can discover new and incredible things about ourselves and about life in general.
6. "To foster more quality time with friends and the fam. To be the most successful version of myself and to push to change myself for the better and not sit idly as life move forwards. Basically, channel Cristina Yang ("Grey's Anatomy"): to "stop accepting crap and demand something more," and be unstoppable. #sarcasm+ambition2016 #goals"

Never settle for less! I've had a friend tell me to never get too comfortable because there is so much more you can do to improve yourself. It's okay to set goals and feel a little ambitious :)
7. "My news years resolution is live. Live more, for myself, and for others, and to not forsake this blessing we call life."

Like I said, life is too short! How will you make use of your precious time? Reflect more on what you can do for yourself and with others. Whether it is trying something new or spending a nice little coffee date with a few friends, make the most of it!
8. "Let my creativity and ideas flow more/find a new medium to express it"

Sometimes we have awesome ideas, but are too afraid to put it into action. Start off small and maybe write those ideas down and choose one that you would like to accomplish. Who knows? Those ideas of yours may hold great potential in the future.
Do any of these resolutions ring a bell for you? For the most part, everyone wishes for similar things. To live more with a purpose, build relationships, be simple, and just to be happy. While we can't expect things to change over night, if we start small and gradually work harder in achieving these goals each day, we'll be able to find the best versions of ourselves along the way and have an amazing time doing it :) And who says you have to be alone doing all of this? Your Bayanihan family is with you every step of the way.
