BSO Couples: Mark Tud and Crissy Garcia

How long have you guys been together?

Exactly one week after Valentine’s Day – February 21, we will have been together for 3 years!

Most memorable date?

Our favorite dates are the simplest ones: staying in watching illegally downloaded movies online, drinking bubble tea/having picnics along the lake looking at the Chicago skyline, and going to Chuck E. Cheese! We’re both kids at heart so we’re not into frilly, extravagant dates the majority of the time. For us, it’s all about maximizing the minimal amount of time we get to spend with each other, enjoying things we both love doing. There’s plenty of time for fancy dinners and that stuff later in life!

What’s the best thing about your significant other?

Crissy – Mark is one of the most patient and practical people I know, which is exactly what I need because I’m completely the opposite. He’s a gentleman who is always sensitive to my needs, and always does the best he can to become a better boyfriend and improve our relationship. I am incredibly blessed to have someone who shows how much he cares every single day. I truly wish there were more people in the world just like him. Plus, he has really nice teeth! Being tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t hurt either ;)

Mark – Aside from her ridiculous humor and random goofiness, Crissy is one of the most caring people you’ll ever meet. She’s also a gigantic bundle of joy in my life, and she reminds me everyday how great I have it, not by telling me, but just by being herself. She pushes me to be a better person, and I truly feel like I have grown a whole bunch since being with her, way more than I have done on my own. And last but not least, she has THE prettiest feet I’ve ever seen, not that I have a foot fetish or anything…

How do you keep your relationship strong?

It’s funny because a lot of people ask us this question; they tend to have this idea that we’ve never left the honeymoon phase. But the truth is really no big secret – honesty and communication are the top two things that keep us going strong. Of the 3 years we’ve been together, we’ve been long-distance for 2 ½, so it is obvious why these two factors are essential. With both of us being full-time students, working 24+ hours a week, we still always make time to talk even if it’s just on the 15 minute drive to work. Although a long-distance relationship isn’t ideal, the anticipation of finally seeing each other is definitely worth it – we always have something to look forward to.

How did you meet?

We met at the BSO Bake Sale at the beginning of the school year in 2010 under Raynor Bridge. I thought he was okay, but didn’t think too much of it. He thought I was pretty cute and “tried to put the moves on me” throughout the semester when he saw me, which wasn’t very often because I was kind of avoiding him… He was technically my ading in Halo-Halo (THE GREATEST FAMILY EVER) so I created boundaries for my “little brother”.

The first time he actually caught my eye, or rather, my ear, was the first time I heard him beatbox at FACT, and that’s when I started putting a little more effort into getting to know him, and we ended up spending a lot more time together.

During the afterparty at Battle of the Bamboo 2011, we discussed how we hated seeing each other flirt with other people so we decided that we would talk the next day about what was exactly going on between us. The next day, we actually both said we didn’t want to get in to a relationship – he wanted to have his freshman fun and I just got out of another relationship. However, at the end of the conversation, we decided to give it the good ol’ college try…and here we are today!

Lesson learned from all of this? Incest ain’t so bad afterall.
